Our Story

Alhamdulillah, Allah Subhanahu Wa Taala, with His great and limitless mercy, has given us the opportunity to become humble servants of His path, the Straight Path, Deen ul Islam.

In year 2000, Allah Subhanahu blessed us with the very first place of worship in Lucan Village. That place was named as Makki Masjid by the Ameer Sahib of a Tablighi Jamaat from Middle East. Makki Masjid fulfilled several of the needs of Muslim Community in Lucan including five times daily congregational prayers, Salat ul Jummah, Taraweeh, Dars-o-Tadrees, and work of Dawah.

That place was named as Makki Masjid by the Ameer Sahib of a Tablighi Jamaat from Middle East.

Unfortunately in year 2003 the premises of Makki Masjid needed to be closed. All the activities of Makki Masjid were moved to a rented place in Grange Manor Lucan. Allah Kareem gave us the Grange Manor Musalla so easily that we prayed the last Dhuhar Prayer in Makki Masjid and Asar Prayer was performed in Grange Manor Musalla the same day. Few months later, considering the increase in Muslim population in Lucan, some of our brothers started another Musalla in Liffey Valley Lucan. Alhamdulillah both of these Musalla worked in collaborated harmony and supported each other.

Grange Manor Musalla started looking for a permanent Imam for leading prayers and teaching children. This was not an easy task. As Ireland was not producing any Islamic scholars, the Imam needed to be recruited from abroad. Ireland was not a favourite place for Imams to migrate to. We requested Daarul Uloom Dewsbury in the UK to help us recruiting an Imam. Molana Saeed, the principle of Daarul Uloom Dewsbury, very kindly helped us. He referred us to several scholars but unfortunately none to them wanted to immigrate to Ireland.

The emigration of Molana Asim Wadiwala to Ireland was a major breakthrough in the development of Islamic environment in Lucan.

After a long period of Duaa, struggle, and requests one scholar agreed to take the responsibility of Imam in Grange Manor Musalla. The emigration of Molana Asim Wadiwala to Ireland was a major breakthrough in the development of Islamic environment in Lucan. Molana Asim was a great teacher. He started the first formal Madrassa of Lucan where he taught children the Quran with Tajweed, Prayers, Islamic manors, and other basics of the religion.

The Islamic education of children lead to a major and visible beautiful change in the lives of many of the Muslim families in Lucan which was never seen before.

Within few months, the Islamic education of children lead to a major and visible beautiful change in the lives of many of the Muslim families in Lucan which was never seen before. More and more families then wanted to get their children admitted to our Madrassa. Molana Asims’s wife was also a scholar. She started teaching girls and women and adorned them with the beauty of Islamic knowledge and manors. She was very kind and loving. Her students loved her immensely.

When the number of children in Madrassa increased it became difficult to accommodate all the students in the Grange Manor Musalla. We needed a bigger space for teaching children. Despite the efforts we could not find any bigger place. But Allah Kareem has his own ways of helping his servants. A newly stated primary school in our area organised a multidenominational meeting where one representative from all the religious communities in Lucan was to be invited to give a short talk. A member of our community was among the board of management of the school. She was asked to nominate a Muslim representative. She nominated one of us from the Grange Manor Musalla.

The representation of the Muslim community and the short talk given by us, which was primarily targeted to dispelling the massive misinformation and distorted view about Islam created by biased media, touched the hearts of many present in the meeting. The principal of the school not only praised our presentation he also invited us to become a member of one of the committees of the school. We accepted the invitation.

In year 2005 our Grange Manor Madrassa was moved to the Griffeen Valley Educate Together School under the care of Molana Asim.

In was in this committee of the school when we learned that the school was planning to use its premises for various afterschool activities by giving its rooms to various groups and organizations. We requested a room to be used for our Madrassa after the school. The principle of the school very kindly allowed us to use the premises. Therefor in year 2005 our Grange Manor Madrassa was moved to the Griffeen Valley Educate Together School under the care of Molana Asim.

Molana Asim and his wife served the Muslim community for few years and then they had to move to another city in Ireland. They left unforgettable memories with the Muslim community of Lucan and their impact on the lives of Muslim families was everlasting. In fact, today’s all the Madrassas in Lucan are actually the legacy of Molana Asim and his wife. We make Duaa that Allah Subhanahu accepts the work of Islamic education in Lucan as a Sadqa-e-Jariah for them.

Once again Allah Subhanahu with his limitless Rahmah brought in the knowledge of one of his servants a newly built building which had a big hall in it. This was the building of South Dublin Football League (SDFL).

Grange Manor Musalla was fulfilling the daily five prayer needs of the Muslim community, however, the increase in the number of people attending Jumma Prayer required a bigger place to perform this obligatory duty of Muslims. Once again Allah Subhanahu with his limitless Rahmah brought in the knowledge of one of his servants a newly built building which had a big hall in it. This was the building of South Dublin Football League (SDFL). It was not anything else other than the great bounty of Allah Kareem that the Chairperson of the SDFL was a very kind hearted and helpful man Mr. Michael O’Brian. His generosity, kindness, help, and support made several things easy for us.

In fact, today’s all the Madrassas in Lucan are actually the legacy of Molana Asim and his wife.

Starting in year 2007 initially we rented the SDFL Hall for Jumma and Taraweeh prayers only. Later on we moved our Madrassa to SDFL too. Over the years a mutual trustworthy relationship was developed between us and SDFL. Other than the major congregational prayers like Jumma, Taraweeh, and Eid, we used the SDFL hall mainly for the educational needs of the Muslim community.

In Ramadan 2014 we gave our services at SDFL a name; South Dublin Maktab (Lucan).

In 2018, South Dublin Maktab was granted a Charitable status by the Charities Regulatory Authority.
